Halloween@Hensville is “Taking it Outside!”

18th Annual Fundraiser for Mental Health

Join Heart & Soul: Caring for Our Community on Saturday, October 23, 2021 from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for the 18th annual Halloween@Hensville. This year, the event planning committee is ‘Taking it Outside” in the Concourse at Fifth Third Field. “We are really excited to be able to continue this fun event by offering a small change of venue that will help keep people safe from COVID,” says Tony Rascyk, a co-chair of the event.

Usually held indoors at The Roost, this year’s event will take place throughout the Concourse, giving people plenty of room to social distance. “Halloween lends itself to ‘masks’ so our hope is there will be a lot of competition for the costume contest,” adds Rascyk. Halloween@Hensville is designed to raise awareness of mental illness and help erase the stigma associated with it.

Admission is $50 per person in advance and $60 at the door. Cost includes dinner, live entertainment and free parking. Entertainment includes the Overton Project and the Toledo School for the Arts Jazz Quartet. A silent auction will take place, along with a live auction by Karen Rose. Costumes are encouraged but not required. There will be a costume contest with prizes for the winners.

“This year will be a bit different – but that doesn’t mean it won’t be fun,” says Sally Binard, also a co-chair. “What’s most important is the raising of funds that will be used to assist those living with mental illness.” Having family and friends who live with mental illness, Heart & Soul co-founders Binard and Rasczyk are passionate about helping reduce the stigma surrounding them and the illness.

“We had to cancel the event in 2020 due to COVID,” says Binard. “This year, we are back and ready to raise funds for the members of the Thomas M Wernert Center and programs at the Northwest Ohio Psychiatric Hospital.
